Mantis housing

Mantids require height for moulting in any container that you use for a house, different species have different requirements in their house they need to thrive. Some smaller species can live out their lives in trifle pots, medium sized species can be happy in a pint glass and larger species a adapted sweetie jar.

I always try to ensure good ventilation for mantids by using a netting lids on pots and replacing sides of larger containers and glue netting on. I have also made quite a few net cages that are perfect for lots of different mantids.

The net cages that I make are made using 12mm square dowel for the frame work and the netting is held in place with strips of MDF. I have made them in all different sizes from a couple of inch cube to just shy of 2ft cube. I've also made combined cages and am going to build more shelf size multi-cages for the shed.
