Species Diary 2010
July
The Theopropus nymphs are growing relatively slowly, so far only 4 have moulted to 4th instar and I think that they are all males.
I have managed to sex all the Acontista nymphs, I have no male multicolor nymphs and 2 F & 4 M of the .sp so fingers crossed with them and I have to try and get hold of some male multicolors.
June
The Brunneria
borealis ooth is still hatching solitary nymphs every other day or 2. The 1st couple to hatch have moulted to 2nd instar now, The Acontista.sp
& Acontista multicolor nymphs are all doing well and growing I hope to be able to try and sex them after the next moult.
The Theopropus nymphs have now all moulted to 2nd instar, one of them is even 3rd. The Acanthops.sp that Kev let me babysit are now mostly pre & sub adult, so all going well with moulting I will try and breed them.
The 1st of my Brunneria borealis has started to hatch, 5 nymphs so far and they all seem to be doing well.
May
The 3rd of the ooths that Luke sent me has hatched Theopropus elegans, thanks again mate your a star!. The hatch wasn't massive just 16 nymphs but I will try my best with them.
Big thanks to Gary for send me some Popa nymphs, it's good to have this species back again just goes to proove what goes around comes around. Thanks also for the Miomantis.sp (Congo) nymphs and the Gonatista grisea.
April
Another massive thanks to Kev for allowing me to look after some of his mantis, I will do my best with them mate. Look forward to seeing if there is any difference between the Acontista.sp & Acontista multicolor. It is good to have Acanthops.sp back again aswell and also having some more Sibylla pretiosa, the only male of which moulted to adult yesterday, looking at the wing buds of the females they should'nt be too far behind.
I have lost a few of the Omomantis zebrata nymphs and some of them have moulted to 2nd instar so I hope they become more sturdy now as they grow. It is the same with the Acontista.sp the remaining nymphs have all moulted to 2nd instar and seem to be doing well. The Stagmomantis caroina nymphs are growing well and have moulted a couple of times now. A few of the Odontomantis.sp have moulted to adult now so in a few weeks I will attempt to breed them.
March
I recieved another gift from Kev 2day, cheers mate your a star. They are another new species for me Omomantis zebrata they are a lovely shade of bright green and look forward to watching them grow.
I have exchanged my P.paradoxa with Brian for a new species to me Acontista.sp, these are a small flower mantis. They are currently only 1st instar and look so much like ants it is uncanny
Feb
The Stagmomantis carolina ooth that Luke sent me quite a while ago has hatched 2day, there looks to be quite a few nymphs in the hatching jar. I look forward to watching this new species for me growing on.
The ooths I was very kindly sent by Yen have now had a diapause and have gone into incubation in the shed, fingers crossed and wait time now.
Got a new species this week from Dan cheers mate, they are Odontomantis.sp which are a nice looking small species.
Jan
A massive thanks to Rob for my chance to re-visit an old species Euchomenella Sp along with Cilnia humeralis plus the new species which are a pair of Pnigomantis medioconstricta and the Deroplatys trigonodera nymphs.
